Joana Gonçalves-Sá has been working as an independent researcher at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC). She has a degree in Physical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico where she first got interested in the interface between mathematics, physics and biology. In 2003 she enrolled in the Gulbenkian PhD Programme in Biomedicine and moved to Boston, where she did her PhD thesis work, at Harvard University.
At the IGC she works on the role(s) that Science and Technology can play in society and particularly on how the scientific method can be used to improve the decision-making process. Her long term goal is to understand how one can build a more critical and engaged society.
